Unfortunately Mr. Travis and his wife (looking miserable when Adam Lambert performed) showed their total inability to appreciate artistic interpretation and form. We won't even MENTION raw talent and years of disciplined training and hard work. Johnny Cash would have LOVED Adam Lambert's performance of Ring of Fire, being the rebel he was. NOW, many months later we see WHO was and is the single STANDOUT TALENT of this season's AI with industry professionals scrambling to work with the gifted, talented and disciplined Adam Lambert, who has worked seventeen years perfecting his instrument. UNLIKE, Mr. Travis who has never had opera experts critique his "voice", Mr. Lambert has received opera experts HIGH HONORS as a unique, powerful vocalist who displays vocal skills not known to many especially in the transition from lower register to upper register in full chest with a range not known by many. Sorry, Randy, you are so busted. If it's not "your bag" you have nothing good to say about it. Meanwhile, Adam Lambert continues to enchant everyone who meets him as a sweet, humble, appreciative boy who just wants to entertain people. So sad that county folk are so narrow minded.
Obviously you know nothing about Randy Travis, or country music.
No one here cares how you feel about Adam or Randy. But to come here and trash an industry Icon...as you have done, is disrepsectful of his achievements and rude beyond measure.
.Twenty two #1 hits.
. Numerous top ten hits.
. Over 25 million albums sold in just the US alone.
. Six Grammy awards.
. 8 Dove awards for his gospel albums (not to mention numerous other awards).
. A star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
. A man who is recieving Irelands International Artist award for his genre.
.A career that extends into his third decade.
But ABOVE ALL the LOVE and RESPECT of MILLIONS of fans world wide.
Yet you dare to compare Adam Lambert's appearaance, performance on AI, praise ( for vocal range) that (Randy also enjoyed at a much younger age) as to Randy's list of achievements ,and longevity in the country music field? Do you even know how ridiculous that comparision sounds?
As to how Johnny Cash would have enjoyed his performance...thats never going to be confirmed is it? I will not deny that Adam showed talent and potential in a format (rock) that would benefit his type of talent. But for me,there was absolutely nothing enjoyable about his screeching perfomance. But then,it goes back to preference of musical taste for ones personnal enjoyment.
The purpose of Country week on Idol is not only to select songs that are from country artists. But to show your ability/versitality to sing them in that format.. Just as Blues, week, Pop week, Rock week etc .Which Adam failed to do of Johnny Cash's song..
Everyone is entitled to enjoy the artist of their choice and preference of music. That includes you. But to come here in an attempt to diminish an artist of Randy's stature and achivements by comparing him to a realitivly unknown artist such as Adam Lambert... is as I said disrespectful, rude and even laughable!. Dee
Negative comments like this aren't worth wasting our time reading or replying to. Randy knows we love him, and that's what is important!
As for Adam...I agree with you, Lademars, that it would have been nice to hear him sing a country song on Country Week. It's almost as if he was telling everyone that he didn't have to do what was required of him. If that was country, I'd sure hate to hear rock! Country has changed over the years, but not that much (smile).
I also agree with Dr. Givens...amen to what you said, Linda!
How dare you come on Randy's website with your outrageous remarks. So, what if Randy didn't enjoy Adam's version of the song. Randy did not bad mouth or disrespect Adam. Adam has a great voice, even I could detect that. But, to say that Randy can't tell a good voice is ridiculous. I am sure that you know of some singers that you don't particularly like to hear sing and sure don't like their take on a song. So, please dont' come on here and talk bad about Randy and Lib. OK, how do you know what Johnny Cash would like? You could be wrong in saying that Johnny would have liked Adam's version. You sure can't ask him. Randy is a very gracious man and a wonderful singer. If you have nothing good to say on here, stay away. We all love Randy here and will defend him until the day we die. Go follow Adam around.----------------------Butterfly
There is no doubt that Adam Lambert is good at what he does and I am also sure that Randy knows that as well and knew it when he mentored on Idol. Personally I like Adam a lot and thought he should have won but in respect fof Randy and Country Week I think that Adam and all the contestants should have song in that style. I think whatever the genre for each particular week that is the style the contestants should sing in. We all knew that Adam could sing low and high and everywhere in between but it would have been nice to hear him sing country the way it is supposed to be song. Maybe singing country is one thing that Adam can't do.
Seems to me Randy didn't really "get" Adam's performance and was narrow minded in his judgement which just shows how outdated he is. Adam Lambert is the next LEGEND.
Well that was Country Week not Rock Week and as far as the song he sang goes Adam didn't even make it his own. He copied it from someone on youtube. Would have been nice to see him take that song and make it his own and still sound COUNTRY!
It always amazes me how people of one artist have to come on other artists web sites and bash that artist to make their own look good, unless of course their only purpose is to draw attention to themselves and rial up the fans of the other artist..
I'll always defend Randy but really don't think i need to when in my mind, i know what he is and how he is and i don't even need to go on another web site and bash other artists to make randy look good. randy does that very well on his own.
And just for the record, there is only one God and it isn't Adam or Randy; it is our Lord Jesus Christ, thank you.
God Bless.

Amen and Forever Amen to what you said Linda. Thanks to the other true Randy fans also. There will always be bitter bashers but they reveal more about themselves than they do about whomever they're bashing.
God bless,
Dr Don Givens
You were absolutely fantastic on American Idol! Thank you for being on the show I watched for the very first time because of you! I am excited to see a lot more come from you soon!
Your fan and friend,
David Allen Cook
Awesome job Randy, looking forward to tonight's show. Alfina
Randy is the only reason I watched the show and the only good part about the whole thing! (many phone calls reminding me to watch because my love of Randy is known far and wide) Thank goodness nobody did his music. It was heart wrenching enough listening to them butcher Dolly Parton's Jolene and slaughter Johnny Cash's Ring of Fire. I could not have stood listening to one of Randy's. He was way to kind to be a mentor.
Awesome show tonight. Randy had some really good advice, now I can't wait to watch him and Carrie Underwood perform tomorrow night. I really enjoyed watching him mentor each Idol, especially when he got to mentor Adam. I agree that was priceless. I so can't wait for the results show tomorrow night. It will be awesome. I will also record that one and try to get it off my DVR and onto a DVD, so that I won't lose those two shows.
Randy you did an excellant job! Really looking forward to the performance tonight. I'll be having my tape ready to record it.
If It wasn't for my sister calling me. I would have missed this show.
I though Randy did a wonderful job on American Idol. I wish he was one of the judges.
My sister called me 20 minutes into the show to tell me Randy was on. I was shocked that she would think that I wouldn't already know that.
i had a friend e-mail me also; well she e-mailed me because another friend of hers told her to let me know. She actually forwarded that person's note so told them both we'd known for awhile now since articles started coming out all over the place and the team posted it on Randy's site.
She figured I knew.

I just loved it. He gave really good advice, was constructive with his comments, and the true gentleman that he always is. The look on his face when he was mentoring Adam was absolutely priceless. Loved it!
I am really excited about tomorrow. Then Randy will have his turn to show them how it's done. It's great that he and Carrie are performing the duet but I still wish he was also doing a solo.
I don't think I will ever forget the expression on Randy's face when Adam got done singing . 'Ring O Fire". And Ryan asked him what he thought when they panned the camera on him. Randy was totally bewildered, and SPEECHLESS ! Who wasn't. Adam souded like he was in some serious pain.
Then the fingernail polish comment just topped it off.
Randy tried to find some really positive things to say in the way of encouragement Lets face it none of them would do well in the country arena. I'm sure it is an experience he will never forget!
Randy as always was the ultimate gentleman and class act.
I too am very proud of him. But I never expected anything less from Randy.
Now tonight he gets to show them all what real talent and good singing of country music sounds like.
I too, wish he was singing something by himself. Dee
Wow, Randy was so honest, and such a gentleman. I truly believe, he was fighting his Christian beliefs, struggling NOT to call a spade a spade with Adam. As they say, "if you dont have something nice to say......" LOL. RT 4EVER! ADAM IS A CLOWN!
Randy Travis is amazing! He seemed so "at home" and did such a marvelous job of encouraging all of the contestants! (I really loved his interaction with Adam Lambert!!!) I'm sorry to be redundant, but I am SO PROUD to be a Randy Travis fan!
Be redundant if you want, Bonnie; I sefcond that comment over and over again myself.
Randy was superb; he did one heck of a fantastic job.
I'm not only proud to be a fan; I'm so proud of our Randy.

What a night Randy was fantastic on Idol. It's the best Idol I have ever seen. Way to go. Can't wait for tonight.

Blending the traditional old country sound of Randy Travis with the young country vocal of Carrie Underwood is wonderful. The duet makes the 1988 number 1 hit new again. What an honor for Ms. Carrie to sing and bring this hit current with one of her idols, Randy Travis. The song should again shoot up the charts. .
That is awesome.
I loved Kendall Beard and even voted for her. i was disappointed they didn't bring her back in lieu of a couple they did.
I would have loved to have had randy and Carrie hear her. Oh well, what do I know as they say.

I certainly thought she had more talent then the ones they did pick to give a second chance to as well.
Who knows with Randy being on there this week maybe someone will bring her to his attention, or Carries. Of all the females that have made it, I thought she was as good as those that are still on there. I'm sure the bulk of the voting is coming from the teen to 35 age demographics. I thought Jasmine was a lot better then Alexis.
How can they say that Jasmine was a natural talent (during the audition phase) and say that she was a very, very talented singer. Then turn around and tell her she wasn't good enough? Why build someones hopes up (especiallysomeone as young as she was) to tear it down later?
Dee
I'm so Excited that Randy gets to be on Idol next week! Although he already is an Idol to so many of us here! I'm hoping that this helps his ATB and Greatest Hits records sales a lot! I'm just trying to think what the judges will think of our Randy, since none of them are true hard core country fans. Hope to buy the Duet on iTunes as well! More Money for Randy as a songwriter!!
Sara
What they will think about Randy. Though Randy Jackson has said he likes country music. So I'm sure he will enjoy the performance . Not so, Simon, as he has said he hates country music. Don't know about the two ladies. Paula I'm sure will enjoy it, she seems to be impressed easily.
Kara liked the one contestent Kendle/Kendra ( not sure of her name, who didn't make it into the top 13) who was the most country sounding of all the contestents. So she'll probably like the duet.
Given that Carrie came into the music industry via Idol, I'm also sure it will be her that they will probably give the most attention and applause for. The good thing is that it puts Randy out there to millions of people who may have never heard a good singer in the country music field that Randy certainly is. And to use Randy Jackson's favorite two comments, our Randy is the bomb, the dawg in our eyes and hearts Thats all that matters ...to me anyway! Dee
Dee, they probably will only be doing the duet since most only do one song and supposedly Brad Pasley is also going to perform. So I would not hold my breath on hearing the new song. The past idols usually only do one anyway so I'm even suprrised they are having two people do a song each.

According to All About Country's website, calling it "Opry Night At American Idol" Brad will be singing his new single on Idol. Thats why I wondered if Randy would be as well. It only mentions Randy as the mentor and both Carrie (doing the duet with Randy) and Brad as being on just on the 18th.
Also, correct me if I'm wrong , but I thought Dolly sang each of the two nights that she was a mentor on there. Dee
Dee
I think they showed a clip of Dolly singing 9-to-5 with all of the contestants while they were standing around a piano. The second night she sang Jesus and Gravity.
It will be awesome if he does sing Turn It Around on the show. I'll be very surprised if it happens though.
I knew I had seen her singing twice, but you are correct. The first was a clip of her singing around the piano during the mentoring phase with the contestents. Well, maybe we will get that from Randy too. We can hope. I know his main performance will be the duet with Carrie. So I too, doubt that he will sing his new single.
Ryan had mentioned at the end of Wednesday night's airing, that each week they would be bringing back an Idol winner. This week it was Kelly Clarkston their first season winner. I was surprised that they didn't have Reba ( who did a duet with her) appear with her instead of that rapper dude.
How Simon can enjoy that kind of stuff and hate country music will always baffle me. Dee
This morning, I said to my mom, "I hope that Randy Travis gets to be on American Idol sometime." I can't believe this is actually going to happen. To have Carrie on there will be cool, too. If Brad Paisley is going to perform, that will be neat as well.
More Randy, is just fine with me too Linda. Though I do like Carrie . It will be interesting to see what he advises them. I imagine pretty much the same things he told those in the Mad Music contest with CMT. I hope he gets to perform his new single the second night. Dee
The second night will be the duet with Carrie. Brad Paisley will also perform on the second night. I doubt if he will sing Turn It Around.
I was so excited to learn about Randy being there. I knew when i heard he'd be on two days he had to be mentoring the contestants insome form or another; I thought initially perhaps Carrie would mentor the women as they have done with two artists in the past but appears Randy will be holding down the fort. That's okay - it just means more Randy for all of us.
for me it is kind of neat since our Randy will be on and I watched Carrie religiously the year she was in the final 12. That was the year i first actually started viewing IDOL.
I saw the list of songs the contestents get to choose from and my only disappointment was there was only one Randy Travis song on the list "Forever and Ever, Amen." i'd have thought with his many hits and his being there, a few more would have been listed. Then again, maybe i don't want to hear anyone else sing them as no one can like our Randy can.

Hi Linda,
I can't tell you how excited I am to see that Randy will perform "I Told You So" that he wrote with Carry Underwood this coming week. I am so thrilled to finally see him preform again. This is just more wonderful than words can express. I have both Tuesday and Wednesday night TIVO'ed so I will be sure not to miss him.

Thanks Ronda for the clip Randy sounds sooooooo good as usual and I can"t wait to see him on the American Idol. Jersey Girl
Thanks for Posting Ronda! Can't wait to hear the whole thing tomorrow! Randy sounds amazing as always!
Sara
I am as excited as everyone else about Randy being on Idol. And hearing this duet with him and Carrie of HIS great song "I Told You So" I wonder if this will lead to future duets with her...like the old Loretta and Conway, or the Tammy and George Jones duets? Randy sounds amazing as always. Maybe he will change Simon's opinion about country music.
Dee
I am excited like the rest of you about seeing Randy on American Idol. The 30 second snipet of the duet is really great. Leaving you waiting for more. They sounded very, very good together. No wonder he let Carrie record his song. I hope that singing this on American Idol will take it to #1 on the Billboard Chart. I hope that radio will play Randy's new single although it is my least favorite on the CD. Hope all of you on the site have a great evening. I just ordered the Fan Club Pack, Can't wait to get it. Butterfly
I just read on CMT that you can download the new studio duet version of I Told You So the day after Randy and Carrie's Idol appearance.
