The state fair begins in just 10 days on August 28th, and it's being kicked off with
a big show. Lee Ann Womack will perform live that Friday night in the open air auditorium,
but that's just one of the many famous names coming to celebrate Lincoln's last state
fair, and the big shows are expected to bring an even bigger crowd.
The Nebraska State Fair has been around for more than 100 years, and has spent time
in Nebraska City, Brownville, Omaha, and is now ending it's reign in Lincoln.

"Because this is the last fair here in Lincoln, we are anticipating larger crowds,"
said the fair's Executive Director Joseph McDermott.
And to entertain those crowds, McDermott says they've got some big shows this year,
but for the first time in a while, not all of them are free.
"For probably the past seven or eight years, we have done free concerts which have
been very popular, but we did want to bring back some paid concerts," said McDermott.
"We have Hall and Oates on Saturday the 29th, and then on that Sunday the 6th, we
have Montgomery Gentry, that's something new," he said.
The paid concerts will take place in the grandstand, but some other popular artists
set to grace the open air auditorium for free include country's great Randy Travis,
Bret Michaels, and Lee Ann Womack.
But with the anticipated crowds these stars will draw, the State Fair Grounds might
not have enough parking, a situation solved by extra lots on North 27th Street, where
people will be able to park, and take a shuttle bus to the fair.
"They will be running 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 p.m., so if people want to make a pretty
easy trip to the fair, they can go park in those lots and just ride the bus into
the fairgrounds," said McDermott.
A new midway is taking over the kids' favorite part of the fair - rides. From old
classics like the bumper cars, to the newest trends in amusements, organizers say
this year's Nebraska State Fair will be one to remember, as they move forward with
the tradition next year, in Grand Island.
The fair runs from next Friday, August 28th through Labor Day, on Monday, September
7th. Admission this year is $8.00 for adults and $2.00 for kids. The two paid concerts
will cost $12.00 per ticket.

Just in case anyone is going, it sounds like they are expecting some large crowds so as the article says, parking will be limited and they will be running shuttles from various other parking areas.
They only mention Randy and I was a bit surprised he was not one of the "paid" concerts? Some are but it appears his is not. Strange.
Anyway, just thought I'd post the article. I also didn't realize this particular fair is relocating out of Lincoln.
If you're one of those attending, enjoy.

Linda: I am planning on attending the Lincoln fair and I do thank you for the information and all of your other posts. Always very informative. I guess I should have expected that it being the last year for the fair to be in Lincoln, they might be expecting a bigger croud then usual but I just didnt think of it. I had to see it written in front of my face. LOL. Thanks for the warning. I am going to have to change my arrival time! I am getting so anxious! I hope we have good weather! Brenda
Thanks Brenda - I wasn't sure if anyone was going or not and with only a name dropping of Randy, I wasn't even sure it was worth posting.
but one never knows who might benefit. Have one heck of a good time there. I'd say enjoy but that kind of goes without saying when it is Randy.

I am going to Mayetta Ks on Sept. 5 with my husband so I wasn't sure I was going to get to take off work to go to this one, but it does seem to be working out! I am really looking forward to it! I work in public transit and I have talked a few other Transit drivers into going with me to the Lincoln concert. When I told them today what you said we have made plans to now leave much earlier! I am putting in for a meet and greet for the Mayetta Ks show as it is not as far of a night drive home afterwards (and my husband is driving) LOL. Keep your fingers crossed for me to get a meet and greet! It will really be a dream come true! You've heard that a million times right. LOL Thanks again! Brenda
Yes, I hear that from many and don't mind at all. i hope that everyone who requests one does get it. I realize of course that may not always be possible but I love more than anything knowing people's dreams do come true.
I hear what your saying about the KS one being closer but you might put in for both of them; just a suggestion.
good luck

I think you are probably right. I may have a greater chance if I request a meet and greet from both. Maybe then I will win one. I do hope so. It can never hurt. Thanks Brenda
LOL! Well I hope this isnt how my luck is looking for the meet and greet. I just went to tours to register for the meet and greet for the Lincoln show and it has been taken off! I guess I will have to hope for the Mayetta show after all.
Brenda, most haven't been notified of the status of their request until a week or less out so I wouldn't be worrying about it. I just nnoticed, and it could be automatic, that the availability for registering usually closes out two weeks prior to show date. I didn't even think about that when i suggested you do both.
But don't give up hope of Kansas, then.

Thanks for the encouragement. Since they have ended both meet and greet registrations and there is nothing I can do about it but wait, I am trying not to think about it so I dont get my hopes up. It is getting so close I am getting so excited! I just have to keep thinking about the day to day stuff to get by. LOL. Thanks for all your help on this blog and also all the others. Im sure I can talk for many that we do appreciate all that you and a few other are always doing to keep the rest of us up to date with great information. Keep up the great work! Brenda
For anyone going to the fair they are predicting 50% chance of rain. That still leaves us 50% chance of great weather, but I am coming prepared. LOL. I Also wanted to tell everyone that I was granted a meet and greet for the Mayetta Ks. show so I am on cloud 9. I told a coworker 20 years ago I wanted to have my picture taken with Randy Travis an now it is finally coming true. I can hardly wait!
I'm happy for everyone with their M&Gs. I know you'll truly enjoy not only the show but the M&G as well. What a weekend you're going to have.
Go and have fun.
