RT Song Question :)

Hi there everyone. I have a small question about a Randy song.
The song "Oscar The Angel" There is one line, that I am not sure my answer is correct, but I would like to know...

When Randy sings the line "Now, I'm not about to argue, Oscar's train had jumped the track"... I have always wondered, if Oscar passed away in a train accident within the song. From my point of view, that is what I always thought. I would like to know if I am correct though. Am I?? Thanks for helping me out. I really do appreciate it :)

I always interpreted that line to suggest that some thought he was not quite all there. Rather than believe that he truly was an Angel. Thus the line "now I'm not about to argue, Oscars train had jumpted the track".
Just my view of that line.

Man , did I get that one wrong...I listened to the song on the album "This is me"..Had nothing to do with Sesame Streek aka Oscar the grouch"..What a wonderful song...

Its ok :)
We sometimes make small mistakes when it comes to music. But yes it is a wonderful song!! I always say many times, anything that is sung by Randy Travis, is GREAT!! I love his music!! He is the BEST!! :)

This song been on my favorites list ever since I heard it. It reminded me of a young man who walked the streets for years and years in my home town. The complete line provides the answer. "I'm not about to argue, Oscar's train had jumped the tracks." It definitely refers to mental capacities. My mother liked to tell a story about a mentally challenged teenager she knew. A visitor in town stopped him one day and asked for directions. This young man knew his limitations so he told the stranger, "You better ask him over there 'cause I ain't." Mom always ended the tale with a good laugh.

Your message also helped me a lot understand the meaning of the line. Also, this song as also been one of my favorites as well when I first heard it. I love the song!! Its a great song. I can never get enough of it. I actually listened to the song today as well :)
Once again, thank you for sharing your meaning of the line. I appreciate it :)

Perhaps we should ask Randy or the Team what it means...Seems like the best way to solve this question..AKA Sesame Street

Ahhhh, now I understand what you mean. Thank you so much for letting me know. I was a bit confused at first but after reading your responses, it helped me a lot. Thank you, I appreciate it :)

I agree with you Jacquelyn. I mean, I love the song!! Its a great song!! Its just that ONE line that has always left me thinking if Oscar passed away in a train accident. As I mentioned before, from my point of view, that is what I thought. I am not sure if I am correct or incorrect, but I would like to know :)

That line basically means that Oscar's mind was not all there, his "train" had jumped the track.

You got me thinking too. I am not sure. I also would like to know the answer.

I thought you might enjoy this clip I put up on sendspace wherein randy talks about the song in the CD World Premiere of "this is Me."

I always thought that since they had to commit him that the line Oscar's train had jumped the track meant that he was not right in the head.
Examples: lost his marbles, not the sharpest knife in the drawer, not the brightest light in the chandeliar, a couple fries short of a Happy Meal.
