I've been wondering...

Howdy everyone. I have always wondered how it will be if Randy did a cover on a Johnny Cash song. As I was listening to Johnny Cash recently, something came to mind telling me "How would it be if Randy Travis decided to sing a Johnny Cash song?" I do not know if he had actually did, but Randy has great vocals and can make great country songs sound wonderful, to me, he can!! (Lol) But I have always wondered about him singing Johnny Cash. Thanks for taking your time in reading my Blog. I appreciate it :)

Countrybug..The biggest problem I have with both of them is how to spell their first names..I love Keanu Reeves..He has made some wonderful movies. The earlier ones were not so great "Bill and Ted's Adventures..But everyone has to start somewhere.

I know exactly what you mean cherokey. I use to be an "ace"speller but the older I get the worse I get at it. Comes with the territory of aging I guess.

The only Keanu Reeves movie I have of him is the Matrix movie. Since I'm not really into action movies that much I never finished buying the series .
The graphics in the one I have was amazing though. I have to say that.

My daughter has the" I Walk The Line" movie. I've only watched it once. But you are right in that both actors who played the roles of Johnny and June who sang , actually sang , and were very believable and good.

I also liked Sissy Spacek in "Coal Minors Daughter" when she portrayed Loretta Lynn. She said in interviews that she learned all the songs and sang them too.

Made me to think of the Hollywood Walk Of Fame induction for Randy . Hearing Jon Voight mention in his comments that "someday someone will want to do a movie of Randy's life and career". Got me to wondering who they could get to play the role of Randy. But more importantly who ( as a bonifide actor) could they find to come close to sounding like him ( musicianship wise)? I couldn't think of a soul.

Wow!! I had no idea I got so many replies back. Sorry about that. LOL!! Thanks everyone who answered on my Blog. As I agree with most of y'all, yes, Randy can make anything sound great!! And Linda, I agree with you with Randy singing "I Can Only Imagine" I love that song sooo much and know Randy, without a doubt, can sing it beautiful!! I sure do enjoy that song very much!! Once again, thanks for everyone who answered my Blog. I appreciate it :)

I did see the movie. It was Joaquin Phoenix that played Johnny Cash. He and Reese Witherspoon actually sang the songs, they were not dubbed by someone else..Good Movie

Your're right again, cherokey. I always get those two actors mixed up.
I guess cause their names are so unusual.. I don't usually buy many movies featuring either man . So easy misake. Anyway, my bad.

I too grew up in the Johnny Cash popularity era. I saw him peform once in person at an arena that also held boxing events in DC. Roy Clark was his guest.
I always liked both artists. But was never what is now considered( a big fan) of either man.

I don't recall Randy ever doing a JC song either. But as others have
said he certainly could. I agree with Linda about "Ring Of Fire" that
Adam Lambert did last season on AI.

Has anyone seen the movie based on Johnny Cash's life and career called "I Walk The Line"? Pretty good movie. I thought Keanu Reeves ( I think that was the actor who played Johnny) and Reese Witherspoon. were very good portraying Johnny and June

I see no one has answered your blog...I can not think of a Randy song, that was Johnny Cash..But I am not an authority...I grew up with Johnny Cash, I know everyone adored him, I never was a fan...Hope someone will come up with an answer for both us...

I'm not aware that Randy has ever done a JC song but rest assured, I am sure he could. I think Randy can pretty much sing anything he wants to. He may not agree but I'm of the opinion, if anyone can, Randy can.

He certainly could have done Ring of Fire far better than Adam did last year on Idol, that's for sure.

That's for sure, Randy Travis could do a terrific job with the Johnny Cash song "Ring of Fire." When I see Randy on April 21st I am talking to him about covering Kris Kristopherson's "Why me, Lord?" - he would do great with that song.
Dr Don Givens

Dr. Givens,
I certainly agree that Randy would do great with this song. You had mentioned it once before and I thought "how perfect".
Let's all hope and pray he will take your suggestion and record it!

Always a fan,
Blessed

I did get a chance to mention to him this past year about doing the one i thought i'd love to hear "I Can Only Imagine."
I think all of these are good songs but he did say, since they are no longer associated with Word, it would probably be awhile before recording any gospel songs. That somewhat disappointed me of course and maybe things will change.
We can sure hope so, anyway.

I like that song too Dr Givens. One of Kris Kristofersons best writing ever.

Don't forget to ask about "The Deck Of Cards" song as well. Tex Ritter was the artist who did that.

I just can hear him doing that song . With his amazing ability to
bring life to a lyric I can just imagine the kind of impact that would have on a lot of people ...believers and unbelievers alike.

Truly an amazing piece of writing. To turn an ordinary deck of cards
into a meaningful bible story. If Randy has never heard of it, I'm sure just the mere mention of that, would peek his interest enough, to want to hear it at least. Even if he didn't want to record it.
