Written in Stone
Ecco
Old 8 x 10 is a solid record from Randy Travis that dwells on those staples of country music, love and loneliness. But when Travis croons a love song, he isn't just trying to woo a pretty young thing off a bar stool. The love Randy Travis sings about is commitment, and the songs of loneliness are filled with the regret of having lost a good thing forever. Though not every song offers sage advice, there is enough good moments to make you want to either embrace your loved one or cry in your beer.
There is no better example of that feeling of everlasting love on Old 8 x 10 than "Written in Stone." The soft harmonica fills perfectly complement Travis' laid back delivery. He sounds confident and reassuring on lines like:
Darling if we live to be a hundred
Or if we don't make it half that long
I want you to know how I feel for you
Is written in stone
I love this entire CD one of my favorites being "It's Out of My Hands" written by Randy and John Lindley.
Interestingly enough with regard to "Written in Stone" it almost made it also onto the Randy Travis Live--Just a Matter of Time CD. I was there for the tapings of that CD and in both shows he did for the taping, he tried to do that song and forgot the words. He finally made it through the entire song error-free one time in the second show so i really thought it would have been on the CD. Evidently, the perfectionist that randy is, he still didn't feel it met the quality he wants so it wasn't added. I know he even said the first go-round that they hoped to perhaps release it as a single that never came to pass but it most definitely was one of the great songs on that CD and would have made for a great single.
