Randy Travis with Dr Don Givens
At Concert Last Evening
My wife Miriam and I were at Randy Travis' concert in Lemoore, Calif. last night and Randy was in great voice. Last time we heard him he had a little throat problem but last night he was awesome. The acoustics in the hall were not the greatest. My wife and I talked to Randy, Elizabeth and Jeff before the concert and they were not giving much time to all the people (about 40 others) to spend with Randy but my wife and I got to spend a little more time with him. He called out our names when he saw us and gave us both a hug.
I asked him to do a cover of "Why Me, Lord?" (Kris Kristopherson) and told him why I thought it was such a good song for his life. Randy said he was getting ready to do some duets with Kris Kristopherson and that he would consider covering that song. We talked about his appearance on ACM Awards last Sunday night and he told me that he had been without anything to eat for ten hours and was kind of exhausted at that Awards show.
He told me how much he enjoyed reading my "Storms of Life" and said he thought it was an excellent book and the message was sorely needed. I gave Elizabeth 3 keepsake laminated copies of "Storms of Life." We talked about some other things but I can't remember it all now - and we were rushed before the concert. We got only 4 photos and I look kind of goofy in some of them because my mouth is open speaking to Randy.
But the real surprise of the evening was when Randy, halfway thru the concert said: "This next song is dedicated to our good friends of 19 years now, Don and Miriam. This song is for you Don and Miriam," - and then he sang: "Peace in the Valley." My wife and I really appreciated that (and were kind of stunned he mentioned our name during the concert.).
Again, Randy, you are the best and we love you.
God bless,
Dr Don Givens
How wonderful of Randy to dedicate a song to you and your wife. That must have made you feel really special. Thankyou for sharing some of what you talked about with Randy and Elizabeth.
I'm sorry to hear Randy wasn't feeling the best on the night of the awards. I am glad however, to hear he was in fine voice and hopefully feeling alot better on the night of the concert.
He does sound like a really great guy.
I hope you Dr. Givens, your wife and all our fellow RT fans are well and happy.
Kindest regards
Susan

Joke told by Randy Travis at concert last night: Bill Gates dies, goes to meet St Peter. Gates sees a man with a beautiful mansion, fancy landscaping, his own golf course. Gates asks: "Who is that?" St Peter answers "that is the Captain of the Titanic." Gates asks "Well, why do I get this small ugly shack? I invented Windows that changed the world!" St Peter replies, "Yeah, but the Titanic only crashed once."
