MORE HUMOR: The following are additional quotes from my book "Storms of Life." I thought Randy's Ranchers would enjoy another good laugh or two.
"I want my children to have all the things I couldn't afford, and then I want to move in with them." - Phyllis Diller
"Too bad all the people who know how to run this country are busy driving taxicabs or cutting hair." - George Burns
"I once shook hands with Pat Boone and my whole right side sobered up." - Dean Martin
"Your food stamps will be stopped effective March 1992 because we received notice that you passed away. May God bless you. You may reapply if there is a change in your circumstances." - Dept. of Social Services, Greenville, S.C.
"I tend to live in the past because most of my life is there." - Herb Caen (columnist for San Francisco Chronicle). That's sure true of me!
"If you ask me anything I don't know. I'm not going to answer." - Yogi Berra
"Have you any idea how many kids it takes to turn off one light in the kitchen? Three. It takes one to say "What light?" and two more to say, "I didn't turn it on." - Erma Bombeck

Still reading
Haven't reaqd the entire book yet Dr Givens, but wha t I have read is very interesting....and of course informative. The humorous quotes add a light hearted touch. Thanks for explaining the book on Ecclesiastes.
Much of the Old Testement is hard to understand. Are you considering on doing a book on other books of the Old Testement?
In my latest blog I entered a nice poem thqt I think some might enjoy. reading . Called "The Old Church"
Why my blog entries are not showing up on the home page blog forum I'can't understand when others entries do. Also in my blog is my testimony. I hadn't had much of a church life growing up. But still what little I did attend (via my grandmother) in my youth I did believe their was a God., I just never took him seriously until in my adult hod and had this experience. Then there was no doubt that God had protected me during this trial. Dee
Humor in General
I think the psychiatrist one is my favorite out of these.
it reminds me of a joke i heard one time about a person hearing that accidents always occurred closest to home. concerned with having heard that, the person moved.
Okay, I'll say no more.

My favorite
My favorite quote is the first one by Mark Twain. About "cats." But there are a lot of funny ones. I included over a hundred in my book "Storms of Life" to balance out the more serious discussion of Ecclesiastes, the Vanity of Life and the Value of Life. Besides, I'm kinda a weird guy - or - at least I like to be humorous. As Ecclesiastes three says: "there's a time to laugh and a time to cry."
I like laughing better.
A sense of humor will carry you through the rough road of life.

Randy's Ranchers: The above blog has additional humorous quotations. Which one do you think is the funniest?

Erma Bombeck
Erma Bombeck was one of my favoirite humorist. A late friend of mine (of 50 years) introduced me to her, by sending me her weekly column. Then I started looking for her books. Never have I ever laughted so hard, when reading her stuff, as she was so true to life with her humor.
So I'll have to pick hers of all the newest ones you have selected.

Erma Bombeck, yes
Yes, Erma Bombeck was quite a humorist and an interestingly funny writer. She sure knew how to humorously describe the frustrations and foibles of life. And I appreciated her clean humor (another clean comedian was Red Skelton - what a character he was and what a good man).
One time I asked Randy Travis when we were sitting at lunch - "who is the most decent person you have met in the entertainment field", and Randy replied, "Without a doubt, Roy Rogers." Randy told me that Roy was such a humble godly man. Roy and Dale Evans were decent, godly people and they also had a real sense of humor.
Dr Don Givens
other humorist
Red Skelton,Jack Benny, Red Buttons, Milton Burl, Paul Lynde, and Phyllis Diller were some of the best humorists in the comedic entertainment field. All (as you mentioned) Dr Givens, never used profanity in their material.
Randy still sites Roy Rogers as his idol. What an honor it was to get to meet him, and come to know him on a personal level.
He and Dale had many children they adopted from around the world. I think at one time they had somthing like 16 children of all ages and ethnic heritage. Of course they had their son, and I think they had lost al little girl in infancy I remember seeing a picture in a magazine of them with all the children around them that they adopted.Dee
Heroes & Friends
Roy Rogers was my boyhood "hero" and favorite cowboy and Randy admired him. Roy Rogers passed away July 1998 and I happened to be at a Randy Travis concert in Reno a few days after he died, and I asked Randy if he was attending the funeral. Though he would've loved to attend his concert schedule would not allow it.
I'm sure most fans have seen the video of Randy, Tammy Wynette and George Jones on stage singing "Heroes & Friends?" Roy Rogers and Vern Gosden walk out on the stage during the song.
Did you know Roy Roger's birth name was "Leonard Sly?"
Roy and Dale were decent, godly people. "Heroes & Friends" is one of my favorite Randy songs. The lyrics are great. I'm proud to say Roy Rogers was my hero, and Randy Travis is my friend.

Heroes and Friends
I am just proud to say Randy is both my hero and my friend. Many probably saw this but speaking of roy and Randy, Randy did write the Eulogy for Roy which appeared in time magazine.
I thought i'd share it here for those who perhaps hadn't seen it before.
Enjoy.

Eulogy ------------------------------------------------------------------------
The first time I met with ROY ROGERS was in 1987 at his museum in Victorville, Calif.
As the door of our bus opened, there he stood, looking as though he'd just stepped
out of one of his old westerns. Very much in awe of this man whom I grew up watching
and tried to emulate at times, the only thing I could think to say was, "Ahh, nice
to meet you." But Roy was the kind of man who was easy to know and easier to like,
so after about two minutes, I was asking questions, and he was answering everything
about Trigger, Gabby Hayes, Nelly Belle and his wife Dale Evans. As my wife and I
listened to his stories, I saw that the Roy Rogers we saw onscreen--cowboy outfit,
white hat, high morals--was the same in person.
I spent time and worked with Roy many times after that. Once, when Roy was a guest
in our Nashville home, he came with me to the Grand Ole Opry. I was playing on Roy
Acuff's spot, and after a song, I said, "Mr. Acuff, you don't know what's about to
happen, but I'm going to introduce someone--Mr. Roy Rogers." The audience stood for
a minute and a half. The chill factor was high. Everyone I've met who knew this man
has spoken only words of praise. I think who he was, offscreen as well as on, is
why Roy Rogers will always remain the "King of the Cowboys."

Randy and Roy Rogers
Thanks Linda for posting that from Time Magazine (Randy's Eulogy of Roy Rogers). Very interesting. Randy told me that when he met Roy Rogers the first time that he was so surprised because Roy Rogers was just as anxious to meet Randy as Randy was to meet him! He was quite a gentleman and was my "hero" way back - let's just say - "in the old days." My 2nd grade photo shows me wearing a shirt with "Roy Rogers" name all over it. Now, I wear my hat - "Storms of Life" Randy Travis.

Thanks for sharing this, Linda - I enjoyed reading it. I may have seen it before but, if so, it has been a long time (smile).

Randy and Roy Rogers
That was an awesome read. I really enjoyed it.
Trigger & Randy's Horse
Several years ago, Randy Travis told me he has a horse which is a descendant of Roy Roger's Trigger. Does anyone know the name of that horse? Randy told me about his horse but I've forgotten the name.
Dr Don Givens
Randy's Horse
I'm glad you asked that about the horse. I think Randy just calls his "Trigger" also. But when I was in Nashville last year where I met Randy, my mom & I asked him about Trigger and what breed he was, etc. So Randy said that he was Quarter Horse/Saddlebred and something else (and that there were 2). Anyways so then he tells us a story about how Roy had to pay for the original Trigger on credit because he did not have enough (I THINK Randy said that Roy paid about $500 for him, which is cheap for a horse). Then Randy told us that Roy gave him the Original reciept from when Roy bought Trigger. It was a really cool moment. Then my mom showed him a picture of me on my Tennessee Walker, and he was like "Oh you have the pads on that one, I've never ridden one with pads, but I have ridden a Walking Horse".
Anyways thought I'd share a little bit of my Randy moment with y'all
Sara
ALSO! In the NEWEST Country Weekly with Kenny Chesney on the cover there is a letter from someone on the Letter page mentioning the Cross Country special that Randy did with Josh and the person was hoping that they could do an album together. (I Would love that, they sang great together)
Trigger
I also thought that he was named Trigger, Jr. There are several articles where Randy talks about Trigger. Here is an excerpt from one of them...
One of his favorite mounts is a 5 1/2-year-old palomino whose grandfather was none other than Roy Rogers' famed steed, Trigger. ''He's mean, but he's smart — he'll answer you 'yes' and 'no' — and a little bit spunky. That's what I like.''
The horse's name? ''Roy just called him Trigger,'' Travis says. ''He calls 'em all Trigger, I guess.
House of Trigger
I have some video of Randy talking about Roy and Trigger.
