When I attended my first Randy Travis concert in the summer of 1988 (Opening acts: David Lynn Jones & The Judds) I never DREAMED there's be an internet at all, more or less a website for fans of Randy Travis! I'm glad we're all here.
Randy Travis is what got me into country music. I hate to use the old Barbara Mandrell line "I was country when country wasn't cool", but I was. I grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and while my friends went crazy for MC Hammer, Salt-N-Peppa. Guns-N-Roses, Poison and such I was the kid in school who had every Randy Travis album, couldn't stop raving about Clint Black and really thought Alan Jackson was a lot of fun.
YEARS later my friend would rave about this "new guy" they heard on the radio named Garth Brooks. All I could say was "I've been listening to him for YEARS and if it wasn't for Randy Travis you may not know who Garth Brooks IS!
Randy's music was REAL to me... not the "get-rich-and-get-all-the-girls" music my friends liked.
Anyone else have a story like that? I can't be alone in this.
