Charlie Rich

I was listening to a couple of Randy's songs tonight and If I didn't know better I would think it was Charlie...The same great voice the same smoothness...And yes I am dating myself....Any opinions???

You are both correct..I guess what I meant to say was the songs that I was listening to sounded like the songs that Charie would sing..such as..
"Easy to Love You" and "Are We in Trouble Now"

I agree with you there cherokey42, I think both the songs you mentioned would have been the kind of song that Charlie would have recorded. Another might have been "Where Can I Surrender" on Randy's "A Man Aint Made Of Stone " album. Another great song. It was one of my favorites off that album.

As ( Charlie Rich) was called by the industry...didn't sound anything like Randy to me either. He had a nice enough voice. Not one of those "Wow"voices like Randys. His only really memorable song for me (the one that got the most air play anyway) was "Behind Closed Doors". If he sounded like anyone, I think he sounded more like Vince Gill or T Graham Brown then Randy. Randy has such a strong powerful conviction in his voice. I never heard that in Charlie's vocals.

One of my favorite older artists is Gene Watson. Was listening to some of his songs the other night. He was a master at romance /love songs. One of my favorites by him was the Randy written "The Great Divide". I also loved his "This Dreams On Me". ( not Randy written) but a great love song... Many of todays artist lack the conviction of telling the story of the song in their voices, like the older artists could do.

I particularly love that Song by Gene but of coursein part because randy helped to write it. Gene had several good songs and one of the best RT shows I have ever attended as far as anopening artist was with Gene and Randy.

Speaking of Randy and writing songs, there is a new one now Randy helped write haveing just been released by Mathew Hagee. You can purchase it on the jhm.org site; it is titled Freedom Isn't Free and sung by Mathew. It is a pretty song.

I have liked some of Charlie Rich's songs but don't think he sounds at all like randy to me. In fact, I find very few that do if any. I guess that is why i love Randy's music so much; to me there is no other like it as far as the quality of voice is concerned.

As far as dating yourself, we have both young and mature on here so not a problem (lol).
